The "Behind your back" gag is a running gag where a character monologues to the audience, but then discovers that someone was standing behind them listening to them. The punchline typically involves the listening character revealing themselves and mocking the speaker for not noticing them. The gag originated with Dr. Wily, who frequently monologues about his evil plans, but it has also been done by other characters. This gag has also been copied by other Sprite Comics, such as Kid Radd (which admitted to copying it). When the Helmeted Author did it (while disguised as Evil Mega Man), he explained that it was called a soliloquy and that no one was supposed to be able to hear it, although this did not stop Roll from hearing him.
